"Velvet" Chocolate bitch mated with "Buddy" 14/6/10 to 18/6/10 - Pups due 1/11/10 onwards - Actually born by C-SECTION 27-10-10

Update 27 - 10 -10

Came down this morning to see fluid all over the kitchen floor BUT velvet wasn’t in labour and her temperature was normal. Decided the best thing was to take her to the vets given the spotting earlier. When I got her there we suddenly had a bag appear with a yellowish discharge coming out of her that did not look the normal puppy bag given the very red veins in it.

The vet at one point thought it was her bladder coming out of her urethra which on closer examination he decided must be a puppy bag but still no labour. C-section later and it turns out she had a really bad uterus infection which was so bad it prevented contractions and was in effect causing her to abort them all at this late stage (DAY 58) fortunately all six pups are out and so far doing ok although she doesn’t as yet appear to have full milk so we are topping up with Welpi just enough to keep them going but not enough to stop them still trying to get milk from Mum.

4 x bitches – 2 x dogs – (3 chocolate dapples and 3 chocolates)

The one thing that gets me in all this is I’ve had Velvet to the vets three times for them to check her out so you would have thought this would have been spotted much sooner. Fortunately I got her to the vets very quickly other wise we would have lost all the pups! It was very much initially what you would expect with a normal pregnancy so you could easily have expected the pups to have come out as normal during the day just I had a gut feel it was very wrong.

Update 8 - 10 -10 (Some spotting issues so took Velvet to the Vets to get her checked out - Pups visible and moving on the scan) In total we checked with the vets three times during Velvets pregnancy because of this issue.

Final Litter - 6 Pups

3 x Chocolate Dapple ♀ Lady Penelope (Penny) 11.15hrs (6.0oz) - ♀ Lorna Doone (Lorna) 11.15hrs (6.0oz) - ♂ King Arthur (Arthur) 11.15hrs (6.0oz)

1 x Chocolate and Tan ♀ Jane Eyre (Jane) 11.15hrs (5.3oz) ♀ Lucy Locket (Lucy) 11.15hrs (5.3oz) ♂ Monti Carlo (Monty) 11.15hrs (6.0oz)

CYCLE Chart - Temp rise followed by a fall to around 36.8 or below indicates pups due with in 24hrs. When the temperature reaches 36.4 it normally indicates labour in progress. Dark Green day 63 indicates possible date from a number of matings. Actual date was the 27/10/10 by emergency C-SECTION - 6 DAYS EARLY.

C-section later and it turns out she had a really bad uterus infection which was so bad it prevented contractions and was in effect causing her to abort them all at this late stage (DAY 58 – 6 days early) fortunately all six pups are out and are so far doing ok 24hrs later. WE DO NOT KNOW yet if they will all survive given they are in effect premature so please watch this space.
